WHAT PREPARATION DO I NEED TO DO?

Proof of Identity: In order to comply with money laundering regulations, proof of identity will be required. This is usually in the form of a passport, photo driving licence, utility bills or bank statements. Please call us if you are unsure as to what documentation is acceptable.

Names, addresses and telephone numbers of the following are required:

Executors/Trustees: You must appoint executors/trustees to ensure that your financial requirements, wishes and desires are carried out as per your instructions. By definition, you must trust these people. Most clients will appoint their spouse or partner as first choice and one, preferably two alternatives. You may wish to consider appointing a professional to act for you. Please obtain permission from your proposed executors/trustees.

Guardians: If you have children under the age of eighteen or are thinking of having them soon, guardians must be appointed to look after them in the event of your death. Please provide a first choice and a substitute guardian if possible and obtain their permission first.

Funeral Wishes: Most people wish to state in their Will whether they want to be buried or cremated, although it is not a requirement of the Will. Please think about what you want and if you have any specific requirements, for instance, the name and address of a Church.

Gifts: Please list any personal gifts you wish to make in your will. For instance, jewellery, golf clubs, car or specific amounts of money to relatives, friends or charities. Please ensure that you describe the gifts so that they can be clearly identified.

Assets: In order to ascertain your inheritance tax liability, if any, please calculate the value of the total assets of you and your spouse or partner if applicable. We are able to refer clients for specialist advice if appropriate.

Disaster Scenario: In the event of you and if applicable your spouse or partner being deceased and all obvious beneficiaries have predeceased you, please decide on alternative beneficiaries.
